Interview With Chirasree Bose, Author of Three Fiction Books

Chirasree Bose is an Indian bestselling author with 3 fiction books under her belt. Her debut book “Done with Her…” grabbed remarkable positions on Amazon bestsellers lists while also getting her the title of ‘the second most popular debut author of India’ in 2019. Chirasree’s second book, a humor-cum-drama, won readers’ hearts across the country through its clever jabs at societal norms. Her third book “There’s Blood on Your Heart” was released in 2021, eliciting praises about the depth of her storytelling skills. The book was nominated for the prestigious AutHer Award 2022 by JK Paper and Times of India.

How do you prioritise your work and manage your personal life?

I prioritize work as well as my personal life depending on the situation at hand. For me, balance is important. It may not be perfect all the time; one will take precedence over the other. But that’s okay. I try no to be too hard on myself.

Do you prefer working alone or in collaboration?

Writing in collaboration hasn’t worked for me yet. So yes, I prefer working alone.

Where do you see yourself in the writing industry in five years?

Writing some of the best stories of all time, seeing them play out on screen, and having created a highly recognized space for myself as an author.

How can criticism be included in your work?

As long as criticism is meant to improve my work and unbiased, I believe it must always be taken and included in bettering my writing and plot-building skills. And I do that positively.

Tell us about instances when you had conflicts with your writing and how you handled them?

Ah, that happens too often. And that’s a sign you’re challenging yourself and your abilities as a writer. For my upcoming book, a multi-genre and multi-pov thriller, I have faced a number of inward conflicts and I am glad I did.

What form of dialogue do you prefer when writing?

Well, dialogues must feel organic. You must be open to reducing the quotient of unnecessary drama and act the whole thing out in your head while writing it down.

Do you read often? What book did you just finish reading?

Yes, every day. I am reading Insomnia by Sarah Pinborough. Last book I read was A Thousand Kisses Deep by Novoneel Chakraborty.

What kind of social media experience do you have?

Honestly, I wish I didn’t have to use social media much but alas! I must. This seems too essential for my books and me as a writer. But concurrently, I make sure that I am away from the frantic obsession with likes, comments, and follows.

Any advice for aspiring writers?

Write what you feel like writing. Nothing is weird or unnecessary or crappy. While improving your storytelling skills is crucial, you must also be willing to take risks and tell the tale just as it appears to you. Don’t be afraid.

Tell us something about your upcoming project?

My upcoming book is called “Where Love was Sinful”. It’s a multi-genre thriller written from multiple perspectives of characters in it. The focus remains on love while crime and politics play out in the background.
