Maria Sharapova Announces Pregnancy On the 35th Birthday, Maria Sharapova, who won all four grand slam tennis titles during her career, celebrated her 35th birthday on Tuesday. Still, the day will be remembered for more than one reason: she and fiancé Alexander Gilkes announced they are expecting their first child.
When the former tennis player took a picture of herself at the beach, she showed off her tiny bump.
“Precious beginnings,” she captioned the photograph. “I’ve always been known for eating birthday cake for two.”
Sharapova announced her engagement to British businessman Gilkes in December 2020, just two years after she announced her retirement from tennis.
Gilkes was frequently seen in Sharapova’s playing box towards the end of her career, and the two have been dating since 2018.
Sharapova’s declaration elicited a simple heart-eye emoji from Gilkes.

During her career, the former world No. 1 was one of the most well-known tennis players in the world.
She is one of just ten women in history to win all four grand slam titles, with five major titles.

According to the WTA website, Sharapova has won more than $38 million in prize money.
