Julianne Hough Wants To Find Her People

Julianne Hough Wants To Find Her People: Hough has just recently migrated from Los Angeles to New York in order to make her Broadway debut, but she appears perfectly at home in her downtown neighborhood. She is an expert on the food menu at Rosecrans, which is also a florist and where Hough purchases her houseplants, and she recommends another café down the block. When we find Rosecrans’ outdoor tables are directly in the sun, and it’s already rather warm, she walks us a block away to a restaurant with shadier outdoor seating. And in a situation you couldn’t have planned if you tried, as we’re conversing over iced coffees, one of her neighbors greets us as he goes by with his dog.

Nobody tells you it’s a lot of effort to make new friends or nurture friendships.

It has been a fulfilling new chapter for the 33-year-old, who has taken on her most challenging duty to date as First Lady: Or, Behind Every Great Dummy are Seven Women Attempting to Keep Him Alive (which runs through Aug. 14). With her years as a dancer and judge on Dancing with the Stars and film credits that include 2012’s Rock of Ages and 2011’s Footloose, many may have expected Hough to take centre stage in a traditional, flashy-costumes-and-dance-breaks kind of musical — not an uproarious political farce from a young playwright (28-year-old Selina Fillinger) that combines vomit gags and sharp commentary on women’s proximity.
